About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Solutions Architect to join our team at Selby Jennings. As a key member of our database platform team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing database solutions that meet our organization's data management requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Database Design and Implementation: Design and implement database solutions across multiple platforms, including PostgreSQL, Snowflake, ClickHouse, SQL Server, Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, and MongoDB.
  • Database Administration: Establish the golden standard for installations, ensuring consistency and excellence in database management.
  • PostgreSQL Expertise: Serve as a PostgreSQL administration expert, with over 5 years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases both on-premise and in AWS environments.
  • Automation and Efficiency: Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to enhance efficiency in database operations and workflows.
  • Database Performance and Security: Ensure database systems deliver optimal efficiency, maintaining high availability and performance, and implement and manage robust database security measures, including access controls and encryption.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with development teams to optimize database structures, queries, and indexing, and perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restorations, and performance tuning.
  • Proactive Monitoring: Proactively monitor database systems to identify and resolve issues before they impact performance.
Requirements
  • Experience: At least 7 years of hands-on experience managing medium to large enterprise database platforms.
  • PostgreSQL Expertise: Expert knowledge of PostgreSQL, including features, functionality, and optimization techniques, with experience in RDS and Aurora variants.
  • Additional Skills: Proficient in at least one of the following: MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redshift, or Snowflake, operational knowledge of SQL Server, strong understanding of data modeling across various database systems, solid expertise in Linux, experience using Python for automation tasks, familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools, such as Terraform and CloudFormation, experience running applications and databases in containerized environments, including Docker and Kubernetes, proficiency with CI/CD platforms and automation of software development lifecycle processes, and experience with declarative automation tools, such as Puppet and Ansible.
  • Preferred Experience: Ideally experience with a similar organization across the buy side/investment management space would be the preference, but also open to candidates from investment banking and other backgrounds.
