Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Tax Technician to join our team. As a Tax Technician, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing payroll tax information, identifying discrepancies, and providing excellent customer service to employers.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze batch reports to identify discrepancies in employer accounts and payroll tax information.
- Audit reports and review data on file to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct research and contact appropriate parties to obtain additional information and/or advise of changes.
- Review requests for changes to employer files and submit requests to produce quarterly delinquent and semi-annual credit notifications.
- Respond to oral and written inquiries from employers, employer representatives, and field staff in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, the Unemployment Compensation Act, and related payroll tax reporting requirements.
- Strong auditing, organizational, customer service, analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills.
- Ability to collect and analyze data, review and reconcile information, identify and request proper posting entry to resolve issues, and use automated systems to review and report information.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, work effectively with the public and agency staff, and present facts in a concise and organized format.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing customer service.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing transactions to resolve problems.
- Coursework and/or training in accounting, business, or a related field.
- Experience working in tax, accounting, finance, or payroll and working with accounting software programs.
