About the Role

The Surgical First Assistant will provide expert-level assistance in all aspects of surgical procedures, working under the direction and supervision of the consultant surgeon as a member of the surgical team.

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will be clinically responsible to the consultant surgeon and will work within the recognised role and framework as published by the Royal College of Surgeons for Surgical Care Practitioners.

They will provide competent, skilled assistance to the operating surgeon during the intra-operative period, undertaking advanced practice and highly specialised skills required for a wide spectrum of cases.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Substantial specialist experience post accreditation.
  • Appropriate experience acquired to demonstrate a high level of clinical skill and excellent manual dexterity.

Desirable

  • Two years hands-on robotic surgical first assist experience.

Education

Essential

  • RGN level 1/C&G 752/ODP LEVEL 3.
  • Qualified Surgical Care Practitioner.
  • Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health Care Profession Council.

Desirable

  • Masters level education or work towards.
