About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Swindon Borough Council as a Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprentice. As part of our team, you will support the repair and maintenance of council premises, working on tasks associated with other building trades to Swindon Borough Council standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out repairs to plumbing and central heating systems.
  • Understand and maintain plumbing and drainage systems, including repairs to WC systems, leaking taps, and water testing and unblocking drains.
  • Maintain high levels of water hygiene within a building.
  • Understand and maintain plant and safety systems and equipment.
  • Demonstrate and implement energy, environment, and sustainability practices.
  • Understand and maintain grounds and external fabric of the building, including drainage and guttering.
  • Demonstrate and understand the control of resources and stock.
  • Understand and demonstrate the principles of planned preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare for refurbishment or deep clean of equipment and surfaces.
  • Understand the importance of customer service.
About You

We are looking for individuals who have:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English, or able to demonstrate predicted grades.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • The ability to learn and apply knowledge in a practical setting.
  • A willingness to learn to drive, with a provisional driving license or the ability to obtain one upon appointment and pass the SBC transport driver assessment.
  • Some experience of dealing with the public.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.
  • The ability to solve practical problems.
  • A basic understanding of the work of the relevant trade.
