Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Bright Horizons Norfolk Lodge Day Nursery and Preschool. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, supporting our Chef in the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals for our children, and promoting healthy eating habits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the kitchen is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety, adhering to internal and external regulations.
  • Support the Chef in the preparation and cooking of age-appropriate meals, minimizing food waste and ensuring dietary requirements are met.
  • In the absence of the Chef, take responsibility for the running of the kitchen, ensuring all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to the team.
  • Promote and ensure child welfare, protection, health and safety, and safeguarding.
  • Support the Chef in managing kitchen budgets and stock levels, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a positive, happy, and safe environment for children and staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen role, preferably in a domestic or commercial setting.
  • Passion for nutrition and inspiring healthy eating habits in others.
  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or above (or equivalent) - must be obtained on day 1 in post.
  • Sound knowledge of COSHH and managing different dietary requirements, particularly food allergies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, children, and parents.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
