We are on the lookout for a Lead Project Engineer to become part of our team on a Joint Venture Surfacing Framework contract. This position involves overseeing a large-scale infrastructure project, focusing on optimizing engineering processes to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery. The role is based in a region that encompasses various surrounding areas.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe Lead Project Engineer will collaborate with the team to execute a strategically vital ongoing project that is essential for operational efficiency and business expansion. You will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guarantee that project surfacing operations are conducted safely, providing exceptional service to our clients while driving efficiency enhancements throughout the project lifecycle. Your role will encompass managing engineering aspects from design through to contract finalization, requiring strong problem-solving abilities, innovation, and a commitment to achieving high engineering performance.
As the Lead Project Engineer, you should be well-acquainted with all engineering surfacing construction methodologies and procedures, capable of coordinating a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess analytical skills and excellent organizational capabilities. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating a proven history of successful engineering project delivery, particularly in pave or surfacing engineering within multi-million-pound initiatives.
- Overseeing the engineering components of the project roadmap, proactively identifying potential issues and employing problem-solving techniques to navigate challenges and meet critical milestones.
- Providing leadership, guidance, and direction to the broader Project Delivery Team, supporting management to ensure all objectives and targets are met.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, business policies, and legal requirements for both team members and contractors.
- Leading, managing, and developing the team to enhance engagement and overall performance.
- Facilitating effective communication with colleagues, management, and contractors throughout the project to ensure timely task execution, employing tact and diplomacy in high-pressure situations.
- Assisting the project commercial manager in addressing contractual issues and recovering associated costs.
Key Stakeholders: Tarmac & Joint Venture Management Team, Project Management Team, Area Operations Managers, Contractors, Site Management, Supply Chain, Technical Operations.
You will be required to hold a FULL UK manual driving license with no more than 6 penalty points.
The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping our organizational culture. Experience as a Lead Project Engineer within the Infrastructure, Construction, Highways, or Surfacing sectors is essential; knowledge of road or highways surfacing will be particularly advantageous.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Desirable: Degree or HNC/HND in a relevant discipline, which would significantly contribute to your success in this role.
- Desirable: Experience in Engineering Management on multi-million-pound operational, construction, or heavy engineering projects.
- Ability to challenge team members and hold them accountable for task completion and quality.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and project management software.
- Strong communication skills, coupled with a positive, proactive attitude towards colleagues and external partners.
