English Teacher Job Opportunity

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join our team in Newcastle. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons to students in secondary schools across the city.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a qualified and experienced English Teacher who can inspire a love of literature and language in our students. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and creating a positive learning environment that fosters academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that cater to the varied learning styles and abilities of students.
  • Utilize creative and varied teaching methods to inspire a love of literature, language, and critical thinking.
  • Monitor and assess student progress through regular assignments, tests, and feedback, ensuring each student is supported in their learning journey.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs.
  • Contribute to the development of the English curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant, challenging, and engaging.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department to share best practices, resources, and strategies.
  • Organise and lead enrichment activities, such as reading groups, literature clubs, or school trips that enhance the learning experience.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and progress, providing reports to parents and senior staff as required.
  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies to foster a respectful and productive classroom environment.
  • Mentor and support students' personal development, helping them to build self-confidence and resilience.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • Strong subject knowledge, with a passion for literature, language, and teaching.
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to accommodate diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, staying up to date with educational research and best practices.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage lesson planning, marking, and reporting efficiently.
  • A positive and proactive approach, with a commitment to the well-being and academic progress of all students.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
