About the Role

The School of Engineering at The University of Edinburgh is seeking a skilled and versatile Engineering Technician to join its Technical Services team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering technical services and support to the School's research activities, particularly in the Institute of Energy Systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the safe and efficient running of laboratory and workshop areas, including routine servicing and maintenance of equipment.
  • Implement Health & Safety procedures within labs and workshops.
  • Transfer knowledge and practical skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as staff.
  • Support the School's mechanical workshops, which include fibre laser cutting, hydraulic guillotines, and CNC machines.

Requirements

  • Extensive work experience in a mechanical manufacturing or process engineering environment.
  • Qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Desirable skills include fabrication, thermal joining, pipe fitting, machining, analytical instrumentation, and technical drawing/CAD skills.
