About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Drainage Officer to join our team at Horsham District Council. As a key member of our Sustainability and Greenspaces department, you will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges posed by increased flooding due to climate change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of watercourses on Council-owned land to identify drainage issues and specify remedial measures.
  • Provide technical drainage advice on planning applications to ensure that development meets high environmental standards.
  • Work closely with the Parks and Countryside team to ensure the Council fulfils its duties in relation to Warnham Mill Reservoir, a site of nature conservation importance.

Requirements:

  • Relevant degree in a related subject and technical knowledge of non-engineering solutions to drainage and flooding issues.
  • Good communication skills to explain complex issues to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with partners within and external to the Council.
  • Full driver's licence and access to a vehicle.
