Autonomy Systems Specialist

We are seeking an exceptional Autonomy Technologist to join our Technology and Innovation team at Leonardo Helicopters. Based in Yeovil, you will be part of a forward-looking group that sets the future pathways for our UK business and delivers them in collaboration with global colleagues.
As an Autonomy Technologist, you will be responsible for developing Autonomy applications that enable crewed, uncrewed systems, and crewed-uncrewed teams to operate with increasing independence. You will work closely with our international Autonomy team and contribute to applications across the UK and Italy.
You will have the opportunity to work in a modern and purpose-built innovation hub, the iAero Innovation Centre, designed for collaborative innovation. You will directly shape the future of Autonomy at Leonardo Helicopters and work within a caring and committed team that strives to shape the future.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing ideas on Autonomy functions that will have the most significant contribution to air vehicle and mission management.
- Helping to define requirements for Autonomy to enhance mission effectiveness and reduce operator workload.
- Staying updated on the latest advancements in autonomy technology and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
- Helping to set up new projects based on your own ideas and collaborating with Autonomy colleagues across the UK, Italy, EU, and other opportunities.
- Collaborating in the development of Autonomy software applications and testing them in our nationally leading synthetic environment and on subscale demonstrators.
- Working alongside colleagues in the UK and Italy and participating in project work across geographies.
To perform this role, you will work well in a team, be flexible, and have:
- A Master's degree in a related subject such as Computer Science, Aerospace, Electronics, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Mechatronics. A PhD is welcome.
- Experience with main programming languages used in robotics and autonomous systems (e.g., Python, C, C++, Matlab/Simulink).
- Experience developing on embedded computing boards (e.g., Nvidia Jetson, Intel Up).
- Simulation software used in robotics (e.g., Gazebo, Airsim, Unreal, Unity, Isaac Sim).
- An enquiring mind and aptitude to work with uncertainty, shape new solutions, and work with teams virtually and in person.
- Ability to communicate and engage with multi-functional teams and colleagues at different levels.
- Behavioral skills in Team working, Problem solving, Ability to independently manage research projects, and availability for national and international travel.
- Able to achieve UK Security Clearance.
- Interest and ability to travel in and outside of the UK.
