Opportunity to Lead in Pharmaceutical Innovation
We are seeking visionary individuals with both technical and commercial expertise who are passionate about establishing and scaling a global, impact-driven enterprise from the ground up (full-time).
We invite applications from seasoned professionals in industry, startups, or those with a background in science or engineering focused on technology development to collaborate with us on pioneering therapeutics for Parkinson's disease.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the DSV team and the current Founder in Residence to co-create and launch a new venture. Upon incorporation of the new entity with pre-seed funding from DSV, you and your co-founders will hold a significant equity stake in the business and continue to receive support from the DSV team after the spinout.
The position is full-time, initially remote (work from anywhere) with potential relocation once the new venture is established.
The Challenge: Advancing Therapeutics for Parkinson's
Over 6 million individuals are currently affected by Parkinson's, a number projected to double by 2040 due to aging populations. While existing therapies provide symptomatic relief, none address the underlying causes, allowing disease progression to continue unabated. Moreover, promising therapeutics often fail to translate effectively in clinical settings, with even successful trials yielding only marginal benefits, frequently limited by toxicity.
To combat this, we are collaborating with Parkinson's UK to develop precise, next-generation therapies targeting fundamental disease-modifying mechanisms in innovative ways. Given that Parkinson's involves multiple pathways, including oxidative stress, impaired autophagy, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammation, single-pathway approaches have limitations. Our strategy focuses on master regulators that can simultaneously rectify multiple impaired pathways, potentially transforming patient outcomes by slowing, halting, or even reversing disease progression.
Our Methodology
We are in the process of constructing an outcomes graph, working backwards from desired high-level outcomes to develop curative therapeutics for Parkinson's.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidates will likely possess several of the following qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent industry R&D experience in neuroscience or a related discipline;
- Comprehensive understanding of state-of-the-art technologies and challenges in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson's, at both cellular and molecular levels;
- Extensive knowledge of therapeutic development processes within the biotech or pharmaceutical sectors;
- Industry-specific expertise, commercial acumen (e.g., strategic partnerships, clinical trials, regulations, etc.), and a robust network within the pharmaceutical industry;
- Experience in biotech, including building and scaling new technologies from concept to demonstration;
- Proven track record in securing funding from early-stage investors or venture capital;
- Experience in leading and scaling high-growth enterprises (leadership or C-suite roles).
