About the Role

As a Commercial Lending Director at Metro Bank, you'll play a pivotal role in driving the growth of our commercial lending portfolio within the Home Counties region. You'll be responsible for managing a diverse book of clients, cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the successful execution of lending strategies.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Commercial Analysts, providing guidance and support to ensure seamless lending fulfillment processes.
  • Develop and maintain robust relationships with key market professionals, clients, and customers, serving as Metro Bank's external representative in the commercial sector.
  • Collaborate closely with Business Development (BD) teams and Lending Directors to convert leads and expand our customer base within the SME market.
  • Oversee a portfolio of Regional Commercial Banking customers, actively engaging with them to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Proactively manage risk across all aspects of lending, including credit, operational, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to deliver comprehensive propositions, pricing requirements, and risk policies aligned with Metro Bank's appetite.
  • Champion a customer-centric approach, fostering a collaborative environment within the Regional Commercial Team and across Metro Bank.

Your Qualifications

  • Proven track record of success in commercial lending within corporate banking environments, ideally with experience as a Commercial Banking Manager or equivalent.
  • Exceptional credit application and underwriting skills, demonstrated by a history of successful lending to medium and large SMEs.
  • Strong ability to build, maintain, and grow valuable commercial banking relationships, coupled with a proven track record of converting leads into new business.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence senior management both internally and externally.
  • In-depth knowledge of various industries and sectors, including their financial performance and structural dynamics.
  • Experience in credit writing, financial analysis, and report writing for complex customer needs.
  • Solid understanding of Financial Crime, AML, KYC requirements, TCF/conduct expectations, and risk management principles.
  • Ideally possess an Associateship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers or equivalent qualification.
