Main Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Lead Nurse to manage the Anticoagulation service on behalf of the Trust, ensuring an efficient and effective service that complies with best practice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for caseload management, work allocation, and clinical supervision, as well as line managing the team and coordinating service delivery.

Key duties include:

  • Training and ensuring the competence of the team.
  • Ensuring appropriate HR processes are followed with relation to sickness management and performance, escalating as necessary.
  • Being proactive in the maintenance of the quality of the department, involved in benchmarking, audit, and clinical governance.
  • Monitoring performance indicators and turnaround times.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting the Dawn Anticoagulation dosing system, ensuring updates are applied as appropriate.
  • Demonstrating competence in the review of medical history & clinical information which may impact on effective anticoagulation, the interpretation of INR results, adjustments & monitoring of dosing regimes of vitamin K antagonists and providing expert clinical advice to patients, relatives, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrating strong effective decision making in relation to clinical management of patients on anticoagulants.
  • Acting as a role model and being actively involved in staff development/support in relation to any change management during periods of service reconfiguration to ensure retention of motivated staff.
About the Role

This is a 12-month Secondment opportunity to lead the Anticoagulation team through a period of service change. The team consists of specialist nurses and clerical staff overseen by a Consultant Haematologist.

The service supports blended working, involving both shifts in the office and some working from home. The team are warm and friendly and highly committed to the care of their patients.
