About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bereavement Support Officer to join our team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Bereavement Support Officer, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and administrative assistance to bereaved families and individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide empathetic and professional support to bereaved families and individuals, ensuring they receive the highest level of care and compassion.
  • Coordinate and manage administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and correspondence, to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, including medical and nursing staff, funeral directors, and coroner's office, to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with bereaved families and individuals, providing guidance and support throughout the bereavement process.
  • Collaborate with the medical examiner officer's, coroner's office, and registrar's offices to ensure accurate and timely completion of statutory and mandatory paperwork.
  • Utilize computerized systems to accurately complete statutory records and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
Requirements
  • 5 or more GCSEs or equivalent, to include English Language & Mathematics (C/4 grade or above)
  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration / Customer Service / IT or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a busy office environment and with an understanding of administrative and clerical procedures
  • Experience of direct work with the general public, especially in highly distressing and emotional circumstances
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role
  • Able to manage personal/professional boundaries
  • Excellent computer skills with demonstrable knowledge and skills using Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workload to ensure strict / conflicting deadlines are met
  • Understanding of data protection issues and the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
