The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a variety of duties, including:
- Conducting surgery consultations
- Providing telephone consultations and responding to queries
- Visiting patients at their homes
- Reviewing and signing repeat prescriptions
- Assessing test results and addressing patient queries
- Completing paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner
Utilizing the electronic document management system EMIS Web, the post-holder will also be responsible for:
- Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- Developing care plans for health
Additionally, the post-holder will be expected to:
- Provide counselling and health education as needed
- Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collect data for audit purposes and quality purposes
- Prescribe medications in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary and generically whenever clinically appropriate
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care under a GMS contract, including some on-call sessions and visits.
