Clinical Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a variety of duties, including:

  1. Conducting surgery consultations
  2. Providing telephone consultations and responding to queries
  3. Visiting patients at their homes
  4. Reviewing and signing repeat prescriptions
  5. Assessing test results and addressing patient queries
  6. Completing paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner

Utilizing the electronic document management system EMIS Web, the post-holder will also be responsible for:

  • Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health

Additionally, the post-holder will be expected to:

  • Provide counselling and health education as needed
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collect data for audit purposes and quality purposes
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary and generically whenever clinically appropriate

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care under a GMS contract, including some on-call sessions and visits.
