About the Role

Hortor is seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security Engineer to join our growing security team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, delivering, and maintaining operational cybersecurity capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and integrate security event monitoring and incident management services to ensure the organization's infrastructure is secure and compliant with industry standards.
  • Respond to security incidents as part of an incident response team, utilizing your expertise in threat analysis and mitigation.
  • Implement metrics and dashboards to provide visibility into the Enterprise infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision making.
  • Utilize the SOAR platform to automate playbook execution and case management, streamlining team processes and tools.
  • Produce documentation to ensure the repeatability and standardization of security operating procedures, promoting a culture of security excellence.
  • Develop additional investigative methods using the SOCs software toolsets to enhance recognition opportunities for specific analysis.
  • Maintain a baseline of system security according to the latest threat intelligence and evolving trends, ensuring the organization remains ahead of emerging threats.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of incidents in conjunction with engineers across the enterprise, driving continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on a broad range of information security standards and best practices, serving as a trusted advisor to the organization.
  • Offer strategic and tactical security guidance, including the valuation of technical controls, to inform business decisions and drive security initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the SOC engineers to maintain up-to-date dashboards of security alerts, enabling the organization to respond effectively to incidents.
  • Document, validate, and create operational processes and procedures to help develop the SOC, promoting a culture of security excellence.
  • Assist in identifying, prioritizing, and coordinating the protection of critical cyber defense infrastructure and key resources, ensuring the organization's assets are secure.
  • Build, install, configure, and test dedicated cyber defense hardware, staying ahead of emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Support Junior Analysts in managing SOC systems, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and skill development.
Requirements
  • Previous experience of utilizing the MITRE ATT&CK and Cyber Kill Chain frameworks.
  • Experience with ELK (Elastic, Logstash, Kibana) and Tanium.
  • Skilled in maintaining Microsoft directory services.
  • Skilled in using virtualization software.
  • Knowledge of key security frameworks (e.g. ISO, NIST 800-53, C2M2).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience of writing Defence/Government documentation.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Broad Spectrum Cyber Course (SANS SEC401 or SEC501 or equivalent).
  • SIEM Design, Architecture and Analyst Course (SANS SEC455 or SEC555 or equivalent).
  • Advanced Analyst Course (SANS SEC503 or equivalent).
