Position Overview:

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Research Manager to assist in the monitoring, evaluation, and learning initiatives of a prominent NIHR portfolio dedicated to clinical and applied health research funding schemes.

The NIHR Research Infrastructure serves as a foundation to promote research by cultivating an environment conducive to early-stage and applied research. Our portfolio encompasses research expertise, specialized facilities, a dedicated research workforce, and comprehensive support services. The NIHR allocates over £606 million annually for infrastructure funding through various five-year funding schemes.

Role Objectives:

Reporting to the Senior Research Manager - Monitoring and Evaluation within the Infrastructure team, the successful candidate will aid in the formulation and execution of strategies and solutions to integrate innovative methods for award-level data monitoring and reporting throughout the research infrastructure portfolio, as well as the deployment of scheme-level monitoring, evaluation, and learning strategies, including impact assessments.

We are looking for an individual with experience in handling diverse data sources (metrics, narrative, and financial reporting), a foundational understanding of research impact, and a comprehensive view of academia, funding, and project management. You will collaborate closely with the Infrastructure team and the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team, engaging with both internal and external stakeholders, necessitating confidence in interactions with peers and the broader scientific community, along with the ability to demonstrate analytical thinking.

Key Duties:

  • Assist in the annual reporting process: support the management of the annual reporting cycle.
  • Facilitate the assessment and adoption of new methodologies for annual reporting.
  • Evaluate reporting outputs: assist in the quantitative and qualitative analysis of data for projects across the infrastructure portfolio.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Master's or PhD in biomedical or health sciences research.
  • Familiarity with monitoring funding awards and evaluating programs.
  • Experience in research funding or management.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational capabilities.
  • Proven ability to produce reports and analyze data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current awareness of the UK's health and care research and policy environment.
  • Experience in managing stakeholders across multiple organizations.

Flexibility:

This position is advertised at 1.0 FTE, and the organization is open to accommodating suitable requests for flexible working arrangements. Part-time and/or job share options may be considered.

Contract Duration: The role is offered for a 12-month period as maternity cover.
