About the Role

This is an important position to ensure the success of the Office for National Statistics (ONS) strategy to deliver statistics for the public good.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on creating and embedding a strategic approach for the ONS across its policy, planning, and delivery activities.
  • Operate across the ONS system to support effective delivery, supporting the Authority Board, the Chief Executive, and the Director General of the Office for Statistics Regulation in achieving all strategic aims of the ONS.
  • Manage the private offices which support our leaders.
  • Provide thought leadership on how the ONS and its priorities should continue to evolve through the next spending review period and beyond.
  • Ensure that the statistics genuinely serve the public interest.
  • Make strategy, but also deliver and monitor the effectiveness of that strategy, fostering a culture of excellence and strategic foresight.
  • Provide intellectual and organisational leadership across the business areas and ensure a focus on quality.
  • Develop and implement policies that support the ONS's mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that the ONS's policies and strategies align with the needs of the public and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills.
  • A proven track record of successful strategic development in a complex organisation.
  • The ability to synthesise multiple priorities into strategic action.
  • Understanding of how data, analysis, and statistics are delivered across government to enhance the efficacy of policy creation.
  • Ability to inform users of statistics through intelligent transparency.
