About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Addiction Specialist Doctor to join our team at Humankind Charity. As an Addiction Specialist Doctor, you will play a crucial role in delivering and maintaining excellent clinical practice, working with service users to develop personalized support packages to help them overcome addiction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to develop and deliver prescribing treatment modalities for service users.
  • Prescribe cost-effectively and according to best practice, providing prescribing information and advice to pharmacists, shared care GPs, and hospital teams.
  • Support colleagues through individual clinical reviews, providing guidance on developing safe and effective treatment plans.
  • Deliver health promotion and harm reduction interventions in a client-centered manner, addressing topics such as safer sex, contraception, nutrition, and healthy living.
  • Liaise with agencies delivering services to or sharing care of clients, including shared care with GPs for service users in shared care services.
  • Lead on complex alcohol detoxification assessments for individuals with decompensated liver disease and tolerance to diazepam.
  • Provide prescribing information and advice to pharmacy and shared care GPs.
  • Review service users with complex physical comorbidities, including decompensated liver disease, the older population, end-stage COPD, and end-of-life care, working with wider partnerships in outside specialist services.
  • Participate in external and internal subgroups, taking responsibility for producing or co-producing plans and reports as requested.
  • Work with service users with complex polypharmacy usage, including illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription-only medication.
  • Undertake doctor-only specific clinics as needed, overseeing prescribing for those presenting with complexity and off-formulary prescribing.
  • Undertake initial reviews, triage, and ongoing support for complex dual diagnosis/presentation, including pregnancy and young people.
  • Provide specialist advice in the management of misuse of POM opioid analgesia to primary care colleagues and the wider internal clinical team.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Addiction Specialist Doctor with extensive experience in addictions, either completed training in general practice or psychiatry. You will have a strong understanding of assessing, diagnosing, and clinically managing the needs of people using substances, including meeting clinical and psychosocial needs according to best practice and organizational policy.
