Job Summary:
A unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated clinical or counselling psychologist to work one day a week in the Camden Diabetes Integrated Practice Unit (IPU). This post has been successfully delivered one day a week and is a key member of the IPU team.
The IPU works as a diverse multidisciplinary team in primary, secondary, and tertiary care to design care plans that meet the needs of people with Diabetes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide highly developed specialist psychological assessments of patients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
- Formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patient's psychological difficulties based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patient's problems.
- Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, within the Diabetes Service, individually and in synthesis.
- Make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about psychological treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models.
- Provide psychological input to the structured education sessions run by the service.
- Provide expertise within the service for specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to the formulation and implementation of care plans.
- Contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users of the service.
- Undertake risk assessment and risk management for relevant individual patients and provide both general and specialist advice for psychologists and other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
- Communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of service users under their care.
- Receive regular clinical professional supervision from a relevant senior clinical psychologist.
- Continue to gain wider post-qualification experience relevant to the execution of duties of the role.
- Develop skills in the area of professional and/or post-graduate teaching, training, and supervision.
- Provide advice, consultation, and training to staff working with the patient group across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate.
- Contribute to the development, evaluation, and monitoring of the operational policies and services of the Camden Integrated Diabetes Service.
- Advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
- Utilise theory, evidence-based literature, and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
- Undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research.
- Undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision.
- Ensure the development, maintenance, and dissemination of the highest professional standards of practice.
- Ensure the development and articulation of best practice in psychology within the service area.
- Ensure the highest standards of clinical record keeping, including electronic data entry and recording, report writing, and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national, and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
