Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Lead will operate primarily within the production facility, with some responsibilities involving administrative tasks. This role emphasizes product excellence, execution of audits, calibrations, and thorough investigations.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a similar dynamic environment, particularly within the food processing or manufacturing sector. While qualifications in Food Science, Technology, or Nutrition are beneficial, they are not mandatory.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary of £30,000
  • Work schedule of 4 days on, 4 days off (day shifts from 7am to 7pm)

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the immediate management of food safety and quality issues as they occur, which includes addressing holds, concessions, and near misses. Conduct thorough investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective measures. Ensure regular internal audits of operational practices, focusing on critical control points (CCPs), hygiene standards, documentation, good manufacturing practices (GMP), and allergen management.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations to investigate customer feedback, determine root causes, and relay findings to relevant teams for corrective action. Manage microbiological and nutritional databases, reporting, investigating, escalating, and resolving any issues.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance testing and monitoring throughout the production process to ensure continuous feedback on product quality. Ensure compliance with established specifications regarding quality and food safety for all processes and products.
  • Perform various quality tests, including pH, allergen, and weight control assessments, calibration, and verification. Assist the Quality Manager in maintaining BRC certification and the Quality Management System (QMS), including tasks related to metal detection investigations and barcode verification management.

Required Experience

  • Experience in food manufacturing
  • Familiarity with BRC and customer codes of practice
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Understanding of allergen control measures
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene certification (desirable but not essential)
  • Level 2 HACCP certification (desirable but not essential)
  • Able to work independently with excellent communication skills
