Job Description

Job Title: Wheel & Brake Systems Engineer

Location: Remote

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Wheel & Brake Systems Engineer to join our team at Apex Recruitment Services. As a key member of our Braking Systems Division, you will be responsible for supporting the development of new wheel and brake equipment, ensuring that designs meet customer, regulatory, and internal standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Assist the Lead Wheel and Brake Engineer in performing performance calculations and simulations to validate equipment against design requirements.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage small sub-projects within the larger wheel and brake (W&B) project as needed.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and review technical requirement documents in alignment with government regulations, company standards, and customer needs.
  • Product Development Lifecycle: Support all phases of the product development lifecycle, including requirements validation, design, manufacturing, qualification, and certification testing, as well as initial service entry.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other engineering functions to ensure successful equipment development while meeting program targets for performance, costs, and schedules.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Track and report key development metrics, such as non-recurring costs (NRC), recurring costs (RC), reliability, and weight for assigned equipment.
  • Compliance: Collaborate with stress, thermal, vibration, and reliability engineers to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Design for Manufacture: Assist the Lead W&B Engineer in ensuring designs are aligned with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and meet Design to Cost (DTC) targets in close coordination with supply chain and operations teams.
  • Qualification Testing: Support the development of qualification test plans, documents, and test setups in partnership with test engineers, ensuring requirements are verified according to compliance standards.
  • Parts Lists and Drawings: Maintain parts lists and review technical drawings to ensure conformance with design standards and timely release.
  • Design Reviews: Participate in internal and external design reviews as requested by the PLE, SME, Chief Engineer, or customers.
  • Root Cause and Corrective Action: Assist in Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) processes related to qualification, design, and manufacturing issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives within the Wheel & Brake Centre of Excellence.
  • Consultation: Consult with Lead W&B Engineer, Product Line Expert (PLE), SME, and Chief Engineers as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Engineering Background: Strong engineering background, ideally with experience of Wheel & Brake component design, and development.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Exposure to DFM, GD&T and working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes.
  • Project Management Skills: Exposure to Project Management skills including cost / schedule tracking.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated communication skills – able to make presentations to customers and lead daily discussions with group of engineers/designers and technicians.

Desirable Skills:

  • Brake Systems Knowledge: Brake systems knowledge/experience.
  • Continuous Improvement Experience: Experience or training in Continuous Improvement activities.

About You:

  • Education: Ideally degree qualified in a relevant engineering field, with industry exposure/experience.
  • Technical Skills: A highly motivated individual with strong technical skills and the ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with different engineering functions and stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and Proactivity: Adaptable and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Travel: Able and willing to travel international, as and when required.
