Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Freight and Logistics Co-ordinator to join our team at Altrad Sparrows. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery, control, and management of freight activities across various locations.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including freight partners and customers.
  2. Create and manage shipping documents, including packing lists, commercial invoices, and collection manifests.
  3. Ensure compliance with destination-specific license requirements and regulations.
  4. Source and recommend suitable vendors and shipping methods for client and work scope priorities.
  5. Coordinate the timely collection and delivery of local, national, and international shipments.
  6. Provide import clearance instructions to freight logistics providers for all UK imports.
  7. Maintain knowledge of UK import and export customs regimes and regulations.
  8. Communicate with warehouse staff to ensure availability of shipments for collection.
  9. Track and review shipments, ensuring timely updates and notifications to relevant parties.
  10. Obtain and file proof of delivery for shipments.
  11. Issue pre-alerts for export shipments.
  12. Assist clients with freight logistics inquiries and provide guidance on logistics processes.
  13. Maintain and update freight logistics registers and files.
  14. Review export and import customs entries for accuracy and compliance.
  15. Ensure all necessary purchase requisitions are completed and purchase orders issued to freight logistics providers.
  16. Identify and implement savings opportunities with guidance from the Global Logistics Activities Manager.
  17. Apply for export licenses via SPIRE, ensuring compliance with company and statutory requirements.
  18. Conduct audits on import and export entries conducted by third parties in the business's name.
  19. Monitor the business's duty deferment account on the Government Gateway Portal.
  20. Submit timely requests for uplift of the duty deferment account with the internal finance team.
  21. Reconcile monthly MSS reports from UMRC.
  22. Support business teams on logistics-related matters, including exporting and importing goods, and domestic courier and road movements.
  23. Support client support teams with customs formalities for goods moving to and from the UKCS.
  24. Support client support teams with identifying appropriate HS codes from the UK trade tariff.
  25. Complete time-writing for UKCS support actions within required guidelines.
  26. Support the Global Logistics Activities Manager in creating and updating freight logistics forms, processes, and work instructions.
  27. Perform other administrative tasks to support the freight logistics process as instructed by the Global Logistics Activities Manager.
HSEQ Responsibilities

The incumbent must be familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and take an active role in compliance and improvement of the Sparrows Integrated Management System.

The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services, or systems to their Line Manager.

Qualifications and Experience
  1. Previous experience in a fast-moving freight logistics environment.
  2. Understanding of Inco Terms.
  3. Understanding of requirements for moving equipment to/from the UKCS.
  4. Dangerous goods air and sea experience beneficial.
  5. Understanding of UK import and export regimes.
  6. Understanding of the UK Trade Tariff / HS Codes.
  7. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  8. PC literate, ideally with experience in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  9. Knowledge of freight logistics and regulatory requirements.
  10. Knowledge of strategic and end-use export controls.
  11. Ability to act proactively and prioritize work with limited supervision.
  12. Ability to develop internal and external relationships with customers and freight agents.
  13. High level of attention to detail and accuracy in completing documentation.
Contract Details

This is a permanent and full-time contract position.
