We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced academic to join our team as a Professor/Reader at the University of Glasgow. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and shaping our research and teaching activities, as well as providing academic leadership and management within the School.
Main Responsibilities- Lead and develop a coherent research programme in the subject area, including securing external research funding and participating in the development of the School's research strategy.
- Maintain a track record of publications of international quality in leading peer-reviewed journals or with a scholarly press.
- Play a leading role in the planning, organisation, development, and delivery of the curriculum within engineering, including developing research-led courses and new teaching materials and methodologies.
- Participate fully in examination and other assessment processes, as well as providing effective, timely, and appropriate feedback to students.
- Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, ensuring their effective development and assisting with difficulties.
- Maintain an external profile by attending and participating in research seminars and conferences within the subject area.
- Lead the development and maintenance of the subject area's reputation with key stakeholders, including developing links with relevant national and international organisations.
- Take on a substantial administrative or management role within the School, as assigned by an Executive Dean.
- Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
- A PhD or equivalent in a related discipline with an extensive and established reputation in research and significant teaching experience within the discipline/subject area.
- Membership of a relevant professional body or commitment to achieving professional status within two years of appointment.
- An established and internationally recognised reputation for high-quality research and knowledge exchange in the subject area.
- A substantial track record of publications (national and international) compatible with enhancing the School's submission to the REF.
- Established track record of successfully securing funding for research projects, and project managing as appropriate for the subject specialism.
- Engagement with the current and future priorities of the School and College strategies, aims, and ambitions.
- Proven ability to lead and deliver high-quality and innovative research-led teaching, including assessment and curriculum development.
- Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to engage at all levels within the Subject, School, College, University, and beyond.
- Record of fostering inclusion, equality, and diversity within a University community, the curriculum, or the discipline appropriate to career stage.
- An established strong national and international reputation in a field of research within the subject area, with potential for significant further growth in the research field and substantial future funding opportunities.
- A strong track record of publication of high-quality and impact in leading international journals.
- A sustained record of gaining considerable research grant funding or equivalent.
- Extensive experience of delivering and leading teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in engineering or a cognate discipline.
- Experience of supervising staff and/or students and of providing leadership to others.
- Experience of successfully managing research projects and grants.
- Contributions to scientific/learned societies.
