Main Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide a range of core and specialist Optometric services and extended roles, supporting the Ophthalmology clinics at North Devon District Hospital, Bideford Hospital, and South Molton Eye Clinic.

Key Duties:
  • Provide clinical care autonomously and in association with Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Nurses, and other professional and non-professional eye clinic staff.
  • Take on extended roles within the Ophthalmology department, including medical retinal/macula, glaucoma, corneal, paediatric, and cataract clinics.
  • Participate and contribute to training and teaching of other professionals, non-professional eye clinic staff, and students.
  • Lead a specialist area of core Optometry.
  • Adapt communication style appropriately to effectively communicate with all professional and non-professional staff, patients, students, and carers to promote the best patient care and service delivery.
  • Manage own clinical workload in an adaptable manner and plan the service for sub-specialist areas of leadership.
  • Contribute to the development of department policies, protocols, clinical guidelines, and patient information.
