Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing Risk Assessments and Ecological Survey Method Statements.
  • Planning, conducting, and overseeing ecological surveys and assessments.
  • Managing site teams effectively.
  • Assisting in the creation of fee proposals.
  • Producing comprehensive ecological reports and method statements.
  • Handling protected species licence applications and Species Protection Plans.
  • Providing ecological oversight and site supervision.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior team members.
  • Overseeing project management and budget control.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Pragmatic and analytical thinking.
  • Technical proficiency in ecological practices.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an environmental consultancy.
  • A degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in protected species surveying, Phase 1 habitat assessments, and ecological evaluations.
  • Experience with protected species licence applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of ecological legislation, survey methodologies, and mitigation strategies, along with a commitment to staying current with industry best practices and innovations.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
  • Membership in a relevant professional organization, such as CIEEM.

Desirable Skills
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • Holding a protected species licence (Bat licence preferred).
  • Experience with Habitat Regulations Assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Familiarity with rail network projects.
  • Proficiency in GIS applications.
  • Access to a personal vehicle.
