About the Role

Hounslow and Richmond Community NHS Healthcare Trust is seeking a skilled Immunisation Nurse to join their team. As a member of the School Age Vaccination Service, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe delivery and triage of nasal flu and other vaccination programmes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assess young people and understand the pre-requisites of giving an immunisation, including understanding contra-indications, aftercare, and relevant advice.
  • Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse, adhering to local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines.
  • Maintain up-to-date statutory and mandatory training, including CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation training.
  • Ensure effective communication and liaison with nursing disciplines and allied professions.
  • Provide support, mentorship, guidance, and supervision to junior and non-qualified staff members.
  • Maintain personal safety and that of others, adhering to Trust policies on Health and Safety.

Job Requirements

  • Administer vaccines according to the national immunisation schedule.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of immunisations given.
  • Provide education and information to patients and families about immunisation, including potential side effects and the importance of vaccines.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions following immunisation.
  • Ensure vaccines are stored and handled according to guidelines, maintaining the cold chain.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, and social workers.
  • Participate in public health initiatives and campaigns to promote immunisation.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols to ensure a safe and clean working environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse with a valid license to practice.
  • Experience in immunisation and vaccination is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current immunisation schedules, vaccines, and contraindications to vaccination.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

  • The role may involve travel to different locations to provide immunisation clinics in schools, community centres, and other settings.
