Casualty Reinsurance Underwriter

We are seeking a skilled Underwriter to become a vital part of our esteemed Casualty Reinsurance division. In this role, you will collaborate with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders throughout the underwriting lifecycle, addressing both renewal and new business opportunities.

Your expertise will enable you to independently assess and price risks, while possessing a comprehensive understanding of Casualty coverage. You will partner closely with portfolio managers to ensure that our risk appetite is effectively managed across critical sectors. As a committed team member, you will be expected to identify new business prospects and leverage your communication and relationship-building skills to enhance the profitability of our portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Overseeing the daily management and growth of a designated portfolio.
  • Initially working under general supervision on smaller or less complex accounts.
  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of market dynamics and client needs, with the ability to target preferred risks within our appetite.
  • Addressing the daily requirements of existing clients, including special acceptances, business development, and technical discussions.
  • Organizing and leading meetings with clients and brokers, often independently.
  • Collaborating with Actuaries, Finance, and Contract Teams to provide thorough technical analysis.
  • Presenting business strategies and individual risk assessments to senior management.
  • Gaining proficiency in underwriting systems and coordinating with our Global Shared Services team as needed.
  • Supporting the broader Business Group in enhancing the global International Casualty portfolio.
  • Understanding the strategic and financial objectives of AXA Group and aligning your individual targets to support the overall business plan.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in Casualty Reinsurance.
  • A strong commitment to excellence, with a history of surpassing expectations and a knack for innovation.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while exercising discretion when necessary.
  • Proficient in identifying and resolving routine issues with sound judgment.
  • Exceptional analytical capabilities, with a quick and innovative mindset, and a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Confidence in taking personal responsibility for your work while also being a collaborative team player.
  • Awareness of the control processes surrounding underwriting functions and the importance of compliance.
  • Adaptability to swiftly changing conditions and requirements, both externally in the market and internally within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a keen interest in business development.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or progress towards achieving such credentials.
