We are seeking a highly skilled PCB Layout Engineer to support our dynamic engineering team on a contract basis. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the design, layout, and optimization of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Key Responsibilities:- Design and layout complex multi-layer PCBs, ensuring signal integrity, thermal management, and mechanical constraints are met.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to develop and refine PCB designs.
- Perform design reviews and provide feedback to improve design quality and manufacturability.
- Generate and maintain all necessary documentation, including Gerber files, BOMs, and assembly drawings.
- Interface with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors to ensure that designs are built to specification and resolve any issues that arise during manufacturing.
- Implement DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFT (Design for Test) principles in all PCB layouts.
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and best practices in PCB design and layout.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in PCB layout and design.
- Proficient in PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or similar software.
- Strong understanding of high-speed design, impedance control, and EMI/EMC considerations.
- Experience with multi-layer PCB design, including HDI, rigid-flex, and mixed-signal designs.
- Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., IPC, JEDEC) and familiarity with DFM/DFT principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Experience with power electronics or RF PCB design.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and version control for PCB designs.
- Previous experience in a similar contract role.
- Competitive contract rate (£40 - £50 an hour)
