About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Chargehand to join our team at Firstbus Careers. As an Engineering Chargehand, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our depot, managing a small team of engineers, and delivering exceptional service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor the daily running of the depot and manage a small team of engineers to ensure strong teams are built and consistently delivering a great service.
  • Carry out repairs and diagnosis on vehicles as required, ensuring compliance with all HS & E legislation and First Group policies.
  • Provide guidance to other staff as required, allocating planned and unplanned work to engineering staff and managing labour overtime in line with set authorisation limits.
  • Action/manage defects recorded on EVDC, load and manage workload using INFOR, and ensure the engineering vehicle status board and daily garage log are updated to reflect any changes.
  • Liaise with the operations department to deal with changeovers and breakdowns in the most effective way to minimise lost mileage.
  • In the absence of the Cleaning Supervisor, manage vehicle cleaning, fuelling, oil checks, and parking.
  • Process vehicle defect cards in line with engineering standard operating procedures and take digital photographs of any vehicle involved in a third-party incident in line with engineering procedures.
