Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the classroom educator in implementing lessons and educational programs
  • Help in the preparation and organization of teaching resources
  • Provide individualized support to learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Facilitate student learning in areas such as literacy, numeracy, and comprehension
  • Implement strategies for behavior management and uphold classroom order
  • Oversee students during recreational periods and external activities
  • Support learners with specific challenges, including dyslexia
  • Assist in the utilization of assistive technologies and specialized equipment
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and specialists to create Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Track and document student progress, reporting findings to the classroom educator
Qualifications Needed:
  • Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
  • Recognized qualification as a Teaching Assistant or relevant experience
Educational Background:
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
  • Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred)
Experience Required:
  • Previous experience in a Teaching Assistant role or similar capacity
  • Experience in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Knowledge of effective behavior management practices
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Comprehensive understanding of the national curriculum and educational frameworks
  • Awareness of special educational needs and disabilities, including dyslexia
  • Effective communication skills with students, educators, and parents/guardians
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Higher-level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) certification
  • Additional credentials in specific areas, such as dyslexia support or British Sign Language (BSL)
Work Environment:

The Educational Support Assistant will primarily operate within a school environment, providing assistance to the classroom educator and students. The role may involve engaging with learners who have diverse educational needs and behaviors. Attendance at training sessions and participation in professional development activities may be required. The work schedule will align with the academic calendar and standard school hours.
