This organization is seeking several seasoned Lead Automation Systems Engineers to contribute to a significant gas project across the UK.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring 3 days in the Chesterfield office and 2 days of remote work each week.
The Lead Automation Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the technical execution of projects, which will encompass the following responsibilities:
- Collaborating closely with the Project Manager to ensure all technical aspects of project delivery and scope management are met.
- Delegating tasks to the engineering team and tracking their progress.
- Ensuring that projects meet technical and quality standards.
- Maintaining compliance with the company's quality processes and procedures.
- Identifying opportunities and variations within projects.
- Assisting the Project Manager in recognizing and managing potential risks and issues.
- Facilitating the use of reusable modules through standardization and modularization of systems where applicable.
- Prototyping innovative technologies.
- Participating in the transition from sales to project handover.
- Supporting the Project Manager in developing the project Quality Plan.
- Assisting in the creation and ongoing updates of task and procurement lists.
- Conducting peer reviews of documents produced by the project team or other departments.
- Performing site surveys as necessary.
- Engaging in preliminary design, upfront design studies, and requirement definition for clients.
- Creating Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
- Developing Detailed Design Specifications (DDS).
- Formulating test specifications and designing testing methodologies.
- Creating project modules, including PLC code modules, SCADA scripts, mimics, and communication drivers.
- Preparing site work documentation with team contributions as needed (risk assessments, method statements, site test documentation).
- Generating Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation.
- Conducting comprehensive integrated system testing, including CFAT, SAT, and installation.
- Managing observations, variations, and reworks.
- Overseeing site installation and commissioning activities.
- Planning and supporting training initiatives.
- Mentoring junior engineers.
- Providing support to the Automation sales and proposals teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive experience throughout the entire project lifecycle, from system specification to design, development, testing, and on-site commissioning.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver detailed design documentation.
- Hands-on experience with PLC and SCADA systems.
- Strong understanding of control panels, electrical installations, and instrumentation solutions.
- A degree or HND/HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration.
