Job Title: Learner Mentor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Learner Mentor to join our team at Acorn Training. As a Learner Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting learners throughout their learning journey, helping them achieve their goals, and overcoming any obstacles they may face.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with curriculum delivery teams to provide support and guidance to learners, ensuring they are on the right program for their individual needs.
  • Facilitate learning support interviews and assessments, identifying learning support needs and evaluating support requirements.
  • Collaborate with curriculum delivery teams to identify learners who may be at risk of not achieving, and develop strategies to support them.
  • Produce accurate records of learning support activities and ensure individual learning support plans are generated, monitored, and updated in a timely manner.
  • Provide one-to-one and group support to learners, both in-class and off-site, as required.
  • Encourage learners to develop independent learning skills and become self-reliant.
  • Support learners participating in apprenticeships, work placements, or bespoke programs, as needed.
  • Coordinate exam adjustment assessments for learners with EHCPs, and facilitate 12-weekly and annual reviews in a timely manner.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Timely Paperwork Submission Rate: the percentage of compliant documentation submitted within the designated timeframe.
  • Audit Compliance Rate: the quality and accuracy of submitted records, measured against auditing standards.
  • Learner Feedback Rating: the satisfaction level of learners based on the quality and standard of support received.
  • Timely Contact Rate: the percentage of learners contacted within 48 hours of referral.
  • Learner Progress Rate: the progress made by learners receiving learning support.
Requirements:
  • Level 2/3 Learning Support or mentoring/coaching qualification (essential).
  • GCSE grade A*-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths (essential).
  • Full driving license (essential).
  • L4 subject-specific qualification (desirable).
  • L3 teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, etc.) (desirable).
Experience:
  • Previous experience in mentoring, coaching, or counseling roles within adult education (essential).
  • Experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds and supporting their individual needs (essential).
  • Experience maintaining accurate records, completing administrative tasks, and managing confidential information (essential).
  • Familiarity with conducting assessments, monitoring learner progress, and providing constructive feedback (essential).
  • Experience collaborating with other professionals, such as trainers, tutors, and support staff (essential).
  • Experience assessing and working with SPLD (desirable).
  • Previous experience managing learners with challenging behaviors (desirable).
Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of learner safeguarding and welfare requirements (essential).
  • Knowledge of various learning styles and strategies to support diverse learners (essential).
  • Familiarity with relevant policies and procedures related to learner support and safeguarding (essential).
  • Understanding of educational systems, learning theories, and principles of effective mentoring (desirable).
Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different individuals and situations (essential).
  • Strong interpersonal skills (essential).
  • Active listening skills (essential).
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities (essential).
