Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and creative Junior Electrochemical Engineer who is passionate about addressing climate change and eager to contribute to the scaling of our technology. In this role, you will assist in the development and optimization of our proprietary water electrolyser technology. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electrochemical processes and characterization, particularly in water electrolysis and electrode material selection. You will work closely with our Electrochemical Engineer, playing a vital role in enhancing technology development and the overall impact of Parallel Carbon.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and optimization of electrochemical components, focusing on enhancing performance and efficiency.
- Investigate the architecture and critical parameters of our proprietary water electrolyser. Identify and assess potential designs, electrode materials, and operational variables to maximize performance, with an emphasis on scalability and commercialization.
- Implement process control strategies to optimize electrolyser operations, ensuring consistent efficiency and quality.
- Conduct experiments to validate process designs and evaluate electrode and system performance using electrochemical characterization techniques.
- Perform comprehensive research on electrode materials to identify cost-effective solutions and improve overall cell performance.
- Collaborate with the Electrochemical Engineer to design and execute experimental studies.
- Contribute to the scaling of electrochemical processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial scales.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate findings and progress to the team and stakeholders.
- Manage your own research and development projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with company objectives.
- Support supplier management activities, including evaluating materials and components necessary for electrochemical processes.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and process enhancements through literature reviews and interviews, continuously improving Parallel Carbon's technology.
- Maintain high safety standards through effective process design and proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including material scientists and process engineers, to troubleshoot and resolve process challenges.
- Foster a culture of inclusive innovation and sustainability within the company.
Qualifications:
We encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet every qualification listed.
- Degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in the design, development, and optimization of water electrolysers.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrode chemistry, durability, and performance testing.
- Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in electrode characterization, electro-catalysis, water electrolysis (HER and OER), and electrochemical technology development.
- Proficiency in laboratory equipment and adherence to safe laboratory practices.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing technical challenges.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate ideas, design specifications, and progress updates. Proficiency in English is required.
