Torbay Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Therapeutic Social Worker to join our Children's Services team. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
As a Therapeutic Social Worker, you will play a vital role in providing specialized support to complex cases within our fostering and adoption services. Your expertise in therapeutic interventions, coupled with your understanding of attachment issues and trauma, will be instrumental in stabilizing placements and strengthening the well-being of children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering psychoeducation and implementing the PACE approach to support children and families.
- Providing consultation to Social Workers on complex cases involving behaviors, mental health, placement difficulties, and therapeutic care planning.
- Facilitating training sessions for staff and foster carers on various therapeutic parenting approaches, including Attachment Theory, Trauma-Informed Practice, and Life Story Work.
- Conducting reflective practice groups to explore complex situations and provide guidance on best practices.
- Providing direct therapeutic interventions to children and young people based on your specialized qualifications (e.g., Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy).
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-graduate Therapeutic Qualification recognized by professional standards.
- Social Work qualification (Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) and current registration with Social Work England.
- Significant experience in therapeutic social work within a children's services setting.
- Strong understanding of attachment issues, trauma, and their impact on child development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
