Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Metrology Engineer to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Dimensional Calibration team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to team leadership and management, including people management, resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff.
  • Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of Dimensional test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Deliver and measure the effectiveness of on-the-job training and experiential learning to team members and apprentices/graduates.
  • Design, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
  • Participate in quality audits, achieving UKAS signatory status.
  • Drive the increase in issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience working in a precision Dimensional Calibration/metrology laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Existing UKAS signatory status for Dimensional Calibration.
  • Knowledge in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
  • Demonstrable use of automation software (PC Dimis, Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).
  • Experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Temperature, and other engineering calibrations.
