Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Advanced Practitioner to join our team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. As an Advanced Practitioner - Acute Oncology Specialist, you will play a critical role in delivering expert clinical care to patients with acute oncology issues.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Practice
  • Participate in the direct clinical management of acute oncology patients from first presentation at the hospital, until discharge.
  • Assess and initiate care for critically ill patients using critical care expertise and skills to assist in prevention, identification, and proactive management of current and potential problems.
  • Plan and deliver research/evidence-based care and treatment in partnership with other health professionals.
  • Delegate/referral to other practitioners when this will improve health outcomes, or when risks and needs are beyond own competence and scope of practice.
  • Provide post-cardiac arrest debriefing of staff and relatives.
  • Prescribe drugs within the capacity of non-medical prescribing, adhering to Trust policy and existing frameworks.
  • Undertake medical procedures such as, arterial line insertion, Igel insertion, and authorising blood products.
Leadership & Management
  • Work within professional codes and policies both nationally and by the Trust.
  • Demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge of critical care/oncology/acute medicine practice and responsibility for one's own professional development.
  • Maintain a portfolio to fulfil requirements of the NMC in maintaining effective Advanced Practitioner registration.
  • Maintain safe practice and development through regular peer review of evidence-based practice with medical Consultant supervisor.
  • Contribute to wider issues in the trust, such as committee membership, clinical progression, and policy development.
  • Actively contribute to the process of clinical risk management.
  • Act as a role model in developing advanced clinical practitioner roles at local, regional, and national level.
  • Undertake annual mandatory training updates and other relevant courses in line with Trust and local policies.
  • Raise quality issues and report related risks within the trust to address poor standards and incidents.
  • Involvement in medical and/or nurse-led research within clinical practice in response to identified need.
  • Measure and evaluate work and current practices through evidence-based practice projects, audit, and outcome measures, and lead others in doing so.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide necessary data for statistical analysis.
  • Assist in the identification of training needs of colleagues and participate in their continuing education, mentorship, and skills development.
  • Ensure personal, peer group support, and clinical supervision needs are met.
  • Have a named mentor from within the medical team for continuing clinical support and development.
  • Provide specialist training and education locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Provide clinical and professional support and advice to all staff.
  • Support, supervise, and assess clinical competencies of nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
