About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fibre Process Engineer to join our team at Gerrell & Hard. As a key member of our Engineering department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing state-of-the-art fibre fabrication processes and introducing novel fibre designs for use in high-end industrial fibre laser systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and monitor fibre fabrication processes and introduce novel fibre designs
  • Hands-on fabrication of R&D/prototype optical fibre & glass preforms
  • Transfer new fibre products and processes into production
  • Participate in business-critical fibre laser technology and NPI projects
  • Diagnose machine and process faults and assist with their resolution
  • Provide training and documentation to manufacturing staff
  • Commission new fibre manufacturing equipment & instrumentation
Requirements
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in fibre optics, laser or photonics fields
  • Hands-on experience with optical fibre fabrication/characterisation
  • Strong IT skills and data handling
  • BSc or higher in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline
Personal Qualities
  • Inquisitive and energetic with a willingness to learn
  • Good interpersonal skills and strong team player
  • Able to follow complex instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization
