Job Summary

The Environmental and Sustainability Officer role is a key position within Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for assisting in the management of energy, water, and carbon emissions across the Trust estate and partner sites. This role will contribute to reducing usage and production, leading to cost savings and an improved patient experience.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist the Environmental & Sustainability Manager in developing and implementing plans to reduce the environmental impact of the organisation's activities, in line with local and national statutory and regulatory targets.
  • Develop and deliver sustainability behaviour change and staff engagement programmes, supporting sustainability communications internally and externally.
  • Support a portfolio of projects that align with the Green Plan, working flexibly across WWL sites as required.
  • Establish and maintain accurate records and data to assist with mandatory returns, including ERIC, CQUIIN, and other required submissions.

Key Requirements
  • Minimum NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area, such as environmental management, science, engineering, or healthcare.
  • Experience in identifying and addressing environmental and sustainability issues within an organisation, engaging staff on behaviour change projects, producing engaging communications, and dealing with complex data sets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work under own initiative and prioritise work streams.
