Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a skilled Materials and Processes Professional to join our team in Stevenage, working on spacecraft within the Materials and Process department.
You will provide technical solutions to materials-related issues arising during design, manufacture, and test of flight hardware, ensuring correct materials qualification for mission-specific requirements.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate will undergo a BPSS check to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
Travel Requirements: Occasional international travel may be necessary.

How you will contribute to the team:
- Providing Materials and Processes (M&P) support to project and equipment procurement
- Critiquing qualification, test plans, and data analysis of data and approving test reports
- Leading non-conformances responses, including investigations into failures, requiring a good understanding of laboratory techniques
- Supporting and leading R&D activities
- Authorizing changes to Parts Materials and Processes (PMP) specifications and associated documentation
- Chairing Materials and Process Review Boards (MPCB) and managing technical performance of subcontractors, suppliers, and in-house manufacturing
- Supporting, coaching, and guiding junior Materials Engineers, Graduates, and Interns
About you – Your Skills:
- A good understanding of spacecraft equipment is ideal, but we'll consider candidates from other industries with strong experience in related metallurgical technologies.
- A strong understanding of metallurgy (aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel) is essential.
- You will hold a Metallurgy, Materials Science, Physics degree or related degree with a proven track record of industrial experience.
- Demonstrable skill for conducting qualification test programs for specific applications.
- Demonstrable experience of various metal joining methods (welding, brazing, fasteners).
- Knowledge of metallic additive manufacturing technologies would be an asset.
- Practical application of Spacecraft Parts Materials and Processes (PMP) requirements – ECSS.Q.ST.70C would be an asset.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
