About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Acoustical Higher Scientist to join our Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics Group at the National Physical Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for advancing our research in acoustics and metrology, with a focus on underwater acoustic measurement and calibration.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement new techniques for underwater acoustic measurement and calibration using our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.
  • Design and deliver experimental techniques for acoustic measurement to customers and collaborators.
  • Contribute to the delivery of NPL's scientific work, including measurement services and research and development projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to publish scientific outputs in leading journals and conferences.

About You

  • A strong understanding of the underlying physical principles of acoustics.
  • Demonstrable experience in precise experimental work.
  • Aptitude for critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of acoustics and marine acoustic technology.
  • Experience with data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in software packages such as Matlab and LabView.
