About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Development Underwriter to join our team at Travelers Insurance Co. Ltd. in Birmingham. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for developing relationships and new business in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting and Risk Assessment: You will underwrite and assess risk to maximize business growth and profitability for allocated broker panels, making sound decisions within your underwriting authority.
  • Business Development: You will identify, develop, and write new business opportunities in accordance with your underwriting authority, continuously seeking out solutions to meet the needs of clients and brokers.
  • Collaboration and Communication: You will work closely with the team and other Regional Underwriting Offices to offer a superior service and responsiveness to new business submissions.
  • Account Management: You will manage and underwrite renewal business, ensuring accurate underwriting documentation and information in account management systems.
  • Training and Development: You will actively engage and seek out training opportunities to further develop your underwriting expertise.
  • Broker and Client Relationships: You will develop and leverage broker/client relationships through a high level of visibility and using a disciplined sales management approach.
  • Collaboration with Distribution: You will work with Distribution to develop, document, and execute sales plans, emphasizing increasing marketing and sales activities outside the office.
  • Regulatory Compliance: You will ensure you understand all compliance and regulatory requirements for your role by completing all necessary training and certifications.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in underwriting property and casualty business.
  • Strong underwriting skills and knowledge of underwriting strategies and principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
