Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking a Junior Radiological Protection Engineer to join our team.

Role Overview:

  • Support Radiological Protection Engineers in the design and planning of projects, as well as the evaluation of products, technologies, and processes, ensuring that Radiological Protection protocols are updated to comply with existing regulations.
  • Provide Radiological Protection assistance in the execution of client projects, particularly focusing on operational decommissioning tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical guidance on Radiological Protection issues to ensure adherence to Ionising Radiation Regulations and other mandatory requirements on client sites.
  • Contribute to the creation of project deliverables supporting a radiological protection strategy, including documentation such as Radiological Risk Assessments, Radiological Design Documents, Critical Examinations, Dose Estimates, Local Rules, Contingency Plans, and Investigation Reports.
  • Analyze radiological monitoring data related to operational work packages.
  • Assist in conducting ALARP assessments.
  • Support the evaluation of Best Available Techniques and other decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate on radioactive waste management aspects of projects, seeking assistance from other specialists when necessary.
  • As a client-oriented professional, the candidate will be expected to contribute effectively within their skill set, knowledge, experience, and competence.
  • Engage with projects and clients, helping to resolve complex challenges while fostering strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Encourage colleagues' growth and development through knowledge sharing and mentorship.
  • Assist in implementing local and company-wide policies, processes, and systems under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Take responsibility for the quality of their work, following direction from senior colleagues.
  • This role may include line management responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Minimum educational qualification of NQF Level 5 (HND or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Relevant experience in a role related to Radiological Protection.
  • Expected level of initiative: Recommend, agree, act, and report.

Desirable:

  • Membership in a relevant professional organization.
  • Willingness to pursue certification as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA).
  • Basic understanding of compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017.
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness and ability to work within budget and timelines.
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites as required.
