Quantity Surveyor Job Description

**Job Summary**

Gibson Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a part-time basis. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the maximum commercial benefit for our specialist sub-contractor based in Midlothian.

**Key Responsibilities**

* Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects
* Manage project finances and ensure cost control measures are in place
* Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations
* Monitor project progress and variations to ensure financial implications are understood
* Prepare monthly valuations, monitor agreed payment terms, liaise with Main Contractor QS on payless notices or non-payment of applications
* Ensure outstanding accounts are collected, chase and resolve debts
* Knowledge of sub-contractor self-billing tax invoices
* Prepare CIS returns

**Requirements**

* Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
* Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) preferred
* Strong analytical and numerical skills
* Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
* Proficient in cost management software
* Experience in cost control is advantageous

**About the Role**

This is a part-time position, and we anticipate it could suit an individual who is perhaps semi-retired, or a freelancer who could spare 1 day per week. The role will involve working across various contracts, ensuring the maximum commercial benefit for the company, and will entail a cradle to grave delivery from tender stage through to final accounts and all-encompassing duties in between.
