We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Nautical Science. As a key member of our academic staff, you will be responsible for developing and delivering courses in nautical science, including HNC Nautical Science and Class I Fishing level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver training programs in nautical science, including MCA short courses and SQA units
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, and assessments to students
  • Assess student performance and provide feedback
  • Contribute to the development of curriculum and course materials
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as nautical science or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching or training experience in a maritime-related field
  • Current MCA Certificate of Competency at Chief Mate Unlimited (STCW 95 REG II/1) or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field
  • Teaching qualification (TQFE or equivalent)
  • Assessment experience
  • Experience of using maritime/bridge simulators
  • Experience of marine engineering

Personal Qualities:

  • Effective team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
