Job Title: Support Worker for Young Person with Down Syndrome
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Support Worker to join our team at UKCIL to provide support to a young person with Down Syndrome and Autism. The successful candidate will have a calm and confident demeanor, be resilient, and have experience working with children with additional needs.
Main Responsibilities:
- Communicate and support the young person's time, activities, and communication
- Accompany the young person in the local area and their favorite places
- Interact with the young person using suitable means and methods, such as play and drawing, to make them happy and comfortable
Essential Skills and Qualities:
- Calm and confident demeanor
- Resilience; managing anxiety and some challenging behaviors
- Ability to receive training, including Makaton, Down Syndrome, and Autism
- Initiative and flexibility
- Sensitivity to the young person's needs and feelings
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to work unsupervised
Desirable Qualities:
- Experience working with children with additional needs
- Use of own car
Requirements:
- Current and satisfactory enhanced DBS check
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Working Hours:
4 hours per week on Saturdays or Sundays (term-time) and an additional 4 hours per week during school holidays
Hourly Rate: £12.40
