About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team at Latcom as a Principal Ecologist - Project Lead. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and ambitious ecologist to take on a leadership role and manage complex ecological projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management of UK Habitat Classification Surveys, protected species surveys, and other ecological projects
  • Building tenders and creating complex fee quotations at speed, ensuring accurate and timely delivery
  • Producing high-quality technical reports, including PEA reports, BNG reports, protected species reports, Habitat Management Plans, and BREEAM reports
  • Managing medium to large-sized projects, tracking financial progress, and ensuring successful project delivery
  • Line management of junior ecologists, providing guidance and support to ensure their success
  • Logistical and legislative problem-solving, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and laws
  • Fully flexible working, with the ability to manage your own time and work from home or in the field
Requirements
  • Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management (MCIEEM)
  • Relevant bachelor's degree (or higher) in ecology, environmental science, or a related field
  • At least one protected species license
  • Personal Track Safety accreditation (desirable)
  • Desirable skills and experience include:
    • Line management experience
    • Construction/Civils background or knowledge
    • Delivery phase project management experience
    • Interest in Habitat Creation
    • Excellent knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
    • Prioritizing workloads and completing tasks in a timely manner
    • High attention to detail, especially in technical reporting
    • Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and its application
    • Clear and consistent communication skills
    • Personable and a team player, with the ability to work effectively in a team
    • Full UK driving license
