About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team at Latcom as a Principal Ecologist - Project Lead. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and ambitious ecologist to take on a leadership role and manage complex ecological projects.
Key Responsibilities- Project Management of UK Habitat Classification Surveys, protected species surveys, and other ecological projects
- Building tenders and creating complex fee quotations at speed, ensuring accurate and timely delivery
- Producing high-quality technical reports, including PEA reports, BNG reports, protected species reports, Habitat Management Plans, and BREEAM reports
- Managing medium to large-sized projects, tracking financial progress, and ensuring successful project delivery
- Line management of junior ecologists, providing guidance and support to ensure their success
- Logistical and legislative problem-solving, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and laws
- Fully flexible working, with the ability to manage your own time and work from home or in the field
- Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management (MCIEEM)
- Relevant bachelor's degree (or higher) in ecology, environmental science, or a related field
- At least one protected species license
- Personal Track Safety accreditation (desirable)
- Desirable skills and experience include:
- Line management experience
- Construction/Civils background or knowledge
- Delivery phase project management experience
- Interest in Habitat Creation
- Excellent knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
- Prioritizing workloads and completing tasks in a timely manner
- High attention to detail, especially in technical reporting
- Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and its application
- Clear and consistent communication skills
- Personable and a team player, with the ability to work effectively in a team
- Full UK driving license
