About the Role

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our Business Intelligence team. As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of our databases, reports, and systems.

Main Responsibilities

Develop robust software for databases, reports, and websites, adhering to good practice, including source control and documentation.

Lead in planning projects, working with customers to build specifications, and iterating through prototypes and developments on complex technical projects from beginning to conclusion.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience of database systems, including SQL Server.
  • Experience of using a range of Business Intelligence technologies, including Excel, SSRS, SSIS, and Tableau.
  • Experience within an intelligence function.
  • Experience of working with colleagues from other disciplines and at different levels of seniority.

Desirable

  • Experience gained within an NHS business intelligence function.
  • Experience of manipulating large and complex data sets.

Skills

Essential

  • Analysis and interpretation of information and ability to translate into easily understood messages.
  • Knowledge in the advanced use of databases (data modelling, querying, administration, security).

Desirable

  • Aptitude in software development - C++, T-SQL, XML.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of NHS performance management systems and processes (statutory returns).
  • Established knowledge of NHS data flows and definitions.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS business intelligence systems and processes CDS/SUS.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques.
