Position Overview

Are you interested in contributing to the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and ensuring the safety of the Defence Estate? DIO plays a crucial role in enabling Defence operations with a focus on sustainability. The Security Services Group (SSG) operates within DIO, providing essential support to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the broader Government Estate in fulfilling their security obligations.

SSG is recognized as the leading authority in delivering specialized security guidance, compliance, and assurance to sectors of the government that demand the utmost security measures. We are adept at designing, installing, and maintaining bespoke security systems as well as highly accredited commercial solutions across government properties.

This role is part of a dedicated team of 230 professionals, delivering comprehensive support services to Defence and Government locations throughout the UK and beyond.

Role Responsibilities

We seek a driven and enthusiastic individual to join our Protective Security Advisory Team (PSAT) as a Senior Advisor. Your primary responsibility will be to provide thorough, independent, and impartial technical security counsel to SSG’s Central Government and other stakeholders. This will involve offering detailed recommendations, translating user needs into technical specifications, and conducting system evaluations.

This position requires travel across the UK and occasional international trips, which may involve overnight stays. You will have the option of using a non-liveried company vehicle for work-related travel, with the possibility of personal use.

Candidate Profile

The Senior Advisor will focus on protective physical security. Additional qualifications include:

  • Extensive technical knowledge in physical security, with proven experience in protective measures (e.g., barriers, structures, locking mechanisms, doors, high-velocity munitions). Familiarity with electronic security systems (e.g., intrusion detection systems, video surveillance systems, access control systems) is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with clients and represent SSG in high-level discussions and negotiations.
  • Ability to deliver targeted technical security training to SSG personnel and external clients as needed.
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, with experience managing small teams when necessary.
  • Financial acumen in estimating, job costing, invoicing, and budget oversight.
  • A flexible work approach, with a willingness to attend site meetings and travel as required.
  • Knowledge of British, European, and Government security standards, along with familiarity with quality assurance and health & safety policies.
  • Desirable: A broad understanding of electronic security and a commitment to enhancing personal and departmental capabilities in protective security.

Licenses and Qualifications

Full UK Driving Licence is required.

Qualifications: ONC/OND/HNC/HND/Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent recognized qualification in physical security).

Please note that the position does not offer relocation expenses.

New external recruits to the MOD will undergo a six-month probation period.

Travel expenses for interviews will not be reimbursed.
