Position Overview
NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board is seeking a dedicated and proactive Pharmaceutical Services Technician to become a vital part of our Medicines Management and Optimisation (MMO) Team.
In this role, you will collaborate with designated GP practices to facilitate the execution of the MMO strategy, which aims to enhance the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of medication management. As a key member of the MMO Team, your contributions will be essential in advancing initiatives that improve patient care and address health disparities.
While the position requires travel across the Birmingham and Solihull area, the MMO Team operates within six locality teams, and preferences for locality alignment will be discussed during the selection process.
The MMO Team maintains core operational hours from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Team members are expected to work their agreed hours within this timeframe. The Integrated Care Board promotes flexible and agile working arrangements, demonstrating a commitment to equality and valuing staff contributions.
Key Responsibilities
The Medicines Management and Optimisation Team is a large, dynamic, and innovative group that provides expert pharmaceutical guidance to GPs and other primary care professionals.
As a Pharmaceutical Services Technician, you will play a crucial role in implementing the Integrated Care System (ICS) strategy aimed at enhancing care for individuals within the Birmingham and Solihull region.
Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Conducting audits of repeat medication systems to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Advocating for cost-effective medication usage and identifying opportunities to minimize medication waste.
- Establishing and nurturing key relationships with assigned GP practices, offering specialized prescribing support, medication-related information, and training to practice staff and Integrated Care Board colleagues.
As a member of the MMO Team, your focus will be on delivering high-quality care and addressing health inequalities, ensuring that patients remain at the center of all activities.
About Our Organization
The Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System unites local NHS entities, councils, and voluntary, community, and faith organizations to better serve our communities. With a diverse population, our vision is to make BSOL the healthiest place to live and work, promoting equity in health outcomes and life opportunities for all.
We recognize that diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to challenging discrimination, promoting equal opportunities, and creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued.
The Integrated Care Board is dedicated to building a workforce that reflects our community. We actively encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including men, for this role.
The Integrated Care Board is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. We welcome applications from individuals with disabilities and commit to shortlisting all suitable candidates who meet the essential criteria for an interview. Please inform us of any reasonable adjustments needed to participate in the recruitment process.
Job Responsibilities
Detailed information regarding the duties and responsibilities can be found in the attached job description.
The successful candidate will combine pharmaceutical knowledge and technical expertise to support the delivery of a patient-centered medication optimization agenda through:
- Promoting high-quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective prescribing practices in collaboration with registered primary care clinicians.
- Engaging in projects and initiatives across the Integrated Care Board to raise awareness of medication optimization issues.
- Providing specialized prescribing support and advice to practice staff (including GPs and nurses) and other Integrated Care Board personnel as appropriate.
- Analyzing and interpreting complex data, including prescribing information, to assist MMO team members in formulating locally tailored action plans.
- Mobile working between GP practices and Integrated Care Board offices to deliver MMO services effectively.
As a member of our system, you will exemplify our values in all your actions. You will be motivated to address health inequalities and foster an inclusive environment for all individuals.
In return, NHS Birmingham and Solihull offers the opportunity to thrive and grow within a supportive, ambitious, and inclusive team. You will have numerous opportunities to enhance your skills and experience while collaborating with colleagues across various organizations to effect meaningful change and add value.
